Virtual Training Course Held on Value Added Tax (VAT) Guidelines and Economic Activity

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, supervised a virtual training course entitled "Value Added Tax." The Director of VAT Operations at the General Authority of Zakat and Tax (GAZT), Mr. Hammoud Al-Harbi, delivered the session. The General Administration of Legal Affairs organized the course in cooperation with the Office of the Vice Rector for Business and Knowledge Economy. Vice Rector for Business and Knowledge Economy, Prof. Abdul Latif Al-Hadithi, and several senior university faculty were in attendance. The course covered several topics that included an overview of the tax legislative framework, an explanation of the requirements, and the mechanisms of issuing tax invoices and submitting tax returns. It was noted taxpayers had been provided with the full legal detail to understand the potential impact of VAT and their obligations, which was effective as of 1 January 2018. General Supervisor of Legal Affairs, Dr. Ali Al-Hajri, explained this course is a response to the directives stating the importance of implementing the VAT system and benefiting from the specialists at GAZT.

GoGeek Wins World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2020

Source :King Khalid University - Media Center King Khalid University, represented by the General Administration of Information Technology, recently won the WSIS Prizes 2020 award — co-organized with ITU, UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD — in the Capacity Building category, being one of five champion projects. At a high level, capacity building in this context refers to the facilitation of knowledge acquisition, empowering participants to obtain in-demand skills. The prize was awarded at the 2020 World Summit on the Information Society Forum, the world's largest annual gathering of the 'ICT for Development' community. Of note, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also brought home another award and seven certificates for several initiatives and projects. Being responsible for King Khalid University's prestigious award, the GoGeek project aims to empower and offer Saudi youth the technical skills needed in today's world by creating continuous initiatives, regardless of their age and gender. GoGeek initiatives are tailored towards fostering nascent talents and strengthening the skills needed in today's competitive labor market. A big round of applause to our Information Technology team's hard work to develop Asir's competencies in programming smartphone applications, technical platforms, electronic games, and cybersecurity. CIO, Dr. Mohammed Alsaqer, expressed his happiness in winning this valuable award. He thanked all who participated in this project resulting in success at the international stage. CIO Alsaqer explained that GoGeek first started with a technical bootcamp specialized in capacity building. That bootcamp lasted for four weeks and benefitted 14 people. The bootcamp was concluded with six technical projects. Then projects followed to include: electronic games, cybersecurity, spreading technical awareness in schools, and training graduates. GoGeek contributed in building a technical community; it supported the culture of volunteering and digital giving (Attaa Digital). The project also formed partnerships in building and developing digital capabilities and creating technical environments.

Computer Science Students Participate in NEOM Artificial Intelligence Challenge

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center The College of Computer Science at King Khalid University will participate in the NEOM Artificial Intelligence Challenge (NEOM AI). NEOM AI was developed for students from Saudi universities to solve challenges in NEOM using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority is supervising and hosting the competition at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Centre in Riyadh on the 16th of September 2020. 13 Students from the College of Computer Science will represent King Khalid University in 3 fields: energy, entertainment and mobility. The students will be tasked with presenting their solution to a panel of judges, who will choose three winners for each challenge. Of note, solutions must be submitted in both Arabic and English. Dean of the College of Computer Science, Dr. Ali Mohammed Algarwi, praised the students representing King Khalid University, noting that we are participating in more than one challenge, with each team consisting of 3 – 5 members. He explained that encouraging our best and brightest programmers to participate in NEOM AI promotes innovation, increases AI awareness, and builds national capabilities. Participating students started working on the challenge's first stage a few months ago. It was noted that only 30 teams would be qualified for the second stage, which is narrowed down to the top three positions in every field. Challenge Day will be held on 14 September 2020, coinciding with the Global AI Summit.

5-Day E-Learning Practitioner Online Course Launched

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  The Deanship of E-learning at King Khalid University launched a training program for faculty members entitled "E-learning Practitioner". The asynchronous online program, which will last for five days through Blackboard, is an initiative to help augment internal training efforts through increased educator efficiency. To register, please (click here). Dean of E-Learning, Dr. Fahad Abdullah Al-Ahmari, explained that the training program is a part of the preparations for the 2020/21 academic year. Dean Al-Ahmari highlighted that the self-training program is accessible anytime and anywhere via BlackBoard. He pointed out that this type of training is self-paced.

Rector Al-Solamy Congratulates Faculty Nembers on New Academic Year

KKUx Launches New Instructional Design Program

A Meeting on Media Entrepreneurship

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  His Excellency King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, supervised an online meeting entitled "Media Entrepreneurship". The meeting was delivered by Dr. Saeed bin Abdulrahman Al-Amoudi, media professor at the Islamic University of Madinah. Around two thousand trainees attended the meeting, which is a part of "Mobaderoon". The General Administration of Media and Relations organized the meeting in collaboration with the Center of Talent, Creativity and Entrepreneurship. At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy welcomed the participants, noting that the meeting is a result of the University's role in raising the level of cultural and community awareness. "Media Entrepreneurship is a burgeoning field in the Kingdom and is a focus under the Vision 2030 umbrella. Saudi universities are now focusing on media entrepreneurship, including us at King Khalid Univeristy through our initiatives and leading experiences in this field," he said. His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy then highlighted that the Mobaderoon successfully reached all sectors of society through several programs, meetings and courses. He then thanked the Mobaderoon team, who organized this meeting from the General Administration of Media and Relations in cooperation with the Center for Talent, Creativity and Entrepreneurship. The meeting was moderated by Ms. Sarah Al-Qahtani, director of the General Administration of Media and Relations. Dr. Saeed Al-Amoudi covered several topics, most importantly, an introduction to entrepreneurship. He discussed the definition of entrepreneurship, its benefits, and the difference between small businesses and entrepreneurship. He also discussed the importance of entrepreneurship, its content industry, and the most prominent differences between small businesses and entrepreneurial businesses. The concept of press entrepreneurship was discussed where Dr. Al-Amoudi explained that it is a new concept in the field of specialized journalism. It is different from economic press, which deals with stock market news, big companies, and business people. On the other hand, press entrepreneurship presents creative content that attracts the audience and promotes the ideas and products of startups and entrepreneurs. These products are promoted through permanent platforms like websites, printed journals, broadcast on the Internet, TV networks, and social media. Dr. Al-Amoudi stressed the importance of innovation in media content amongst media entrepreneurship, noting that it is important to present content in a creative way. He also stressed the importance of keeping up with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which uses artificial intelligence, the Internet of things (IoT), 3D printers and drones. Editor-in-Chief and Head of the Economic Department at Riyadh Newspaper, Mr. Khaled Al-Rubaish, explained that the concept of entrepreneurship lies in the fact of how to turn an idea into an actual project. He confirmed the Kingdom adopted the concept of entrepreneurship under the Vision 2030 umbrella with the establishment of the Saudi Venture Capital Company (SVC), which identifies unique high-growth opportunities developed by entrepreneurs who need funding. Al-Rubaish highlighted that Riyadh Newspaper — beginning this week — will dedicate the first page to entrepreneurship to spread the culture of serial entrepreneurship and publish success stories. Economic writer Abdulrahman Al-Jubairi related that media and entrepreneurship are two sides of the same coin, entrepreneurial projects will not be influential or successful without media. Media entrepreneurship is one of the tools to convey a message, document experiences, create challenges and opportunities to make a quantum leap in various fields. Public Relations Specialist at General Authority for Small and Medium (Monsha'at), Mr. Muteb Al-Roqi, highlighted that Monsha'at launched a number of media entrepreneurship-related initiatives. They included but were not limited to courses on the media entrepreneurship industry and entrepreneurship on social media in collaboration with Ahmed Bin Salman Academy for Applied Media. The courses targeted media specialists, those interested in it and media students. Monsha'at also launched a dictionary for entrepreneurship, which contained more than 2,400 approved translated terms. Also established is the Awan platform, a specialized platform to publish everything related to entrepreneurship. It aims to publish content related to entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship reports and news. On creative media content in Media Entrepreneurship, Media advisor Mr. Majid Jaafar Al-Ghamdi related that the content industry in the world of entrepreneurship needs three important tools: a creative idea, conciseness, and high-quality services.

University Announces Second Stage of Admissions to Tuition-Based Graduate Programs

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  The Deanship of Graduate Studies announced the admission of prospective candidates into tuition-based graduate programs concurrently with the second stage of accepting candidates into several higher diplomas, masters, and doctoral programs. Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Ahmed Al-Fayea, encouraged prospective applicants to view the admission results and requirements by (clicking here). Dean Al-Fayea urged candidates to complete their admission process on Tuesday and Wednesday (6-7 Muharram) from 10 am to 10 pm, noting that the location for male candidates is the main admission hall in Building D on the first floor. For female students, the location is set at Lasan Campus. Candidates will verify their documents, obtain their initial acceptance paper, settle their tuition fees, and receive a university number. For verification, the original must be brought for all documents (national identity, graduation document, academic record, academic recommendations, diplomas, English language test certificate in the programs that require it), where the student will be given (24) hours for (payment and uploading the payment receipt), starting from when he receives the initial acceptance paper. It will be possible to upload the payment receipt electronically via Academia. Please note that if the procedures above are not duly completed, the university reserves the right to retract admission offers. For the Public Health Masters Program, candidates will be announced later. Moreover, for the supplementary semester, candidates will also be announced later as their studies will start in the second semester of the year 1442 AH, and they will be contacted in Rabi Al-Awwal. The University continues to apply COVID-19 precautionary measures

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  King Khalid University represented in the University Agency and its entities, continues to work on approved precautionary measures, and sterilizing the buildings and facilities in all the University’s campuses and buildings. The University Vice-President Prof. Mohammed bin Hamid Al-Buhairi, explained the Agency’s entities responsible for maintenance and security continue their efforts following the approved protocols. He confirmed, these entities worked harder to prepare for the new academic year 1442 AH. Regulations were issued to ensure the safety of students, faculty members and employees since they are coming back to the campuses, as stated in the new mechanism. The Director of the General Administration of Maintenance Eng. Amer Al-Zaila’i, explained the Administration took many measures following the decisions issued to control the spread of COVID-19; for the safety of University members. Al-Zaila’i stressed the Administration prepared a team with all precautionary measures (masks and gloves) to clean and sterilize all University facilities. Sterilization is governed with daily time schedules in order to cover all University buildings and facilities. The Director of the General Administration of Safety and Security Mr. Ali Al-Qahtani, explained the Administration is following all precautionary measures, and provide sanitizers and masks in collaboration with medical services, operation and maintenance entities at the University.
