Assigning Dr. Salem Al-Qarni as Dean of the University's Deanship of Academic Development and Quality

Source: King Khaled University-Media Center His Excellency King Khalid University Rector Prof. Faleh bin Reja Allah Al-Solami, issued a decision to appoint Dr. Salem bin Ahmed Al-Qarni as Dean of Academic Development and Quality Deanship, in addition to his work as the Vice-Dean of the College of Engineering for Academic Development and Quality and a general supervisor of risk management at the university.  Dr. Al-Qarni expressed his thanks to the University Rector for this trust, hoping that he would  contribute in the university development and progress  and achieves the nation's ambition and wise leadership. It is noteworthy that Dr. Salem Al-Qarni - in addition to his work, he  worked as the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, and an Associate Professor at the College, and holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arkansas, USA.

Dr. Nasser Tayran Assigned as Dean of Academic Development and Quality

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector, Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, issued a decision assigning Dr. Nasser Tayran, in the position of Dean, at the Deanship of Academic Development and Quality with effect from the Fall 2020 semester. Dr. Jabali expressed his thanks to His Excellency Rector Al-Solamy for the trust, asking Allah to help him meet expectations. Of note, Dr. Tayran's previously held positions include the Dean of the College of Computer Science, supervisor for the Academic Evaluation and Accreditation Department for Engineering and Computer majors at the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment, and an advisor at the Education and Training Evaluation Commission.

Times Higher Education Ranks King Khalid University

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center King Khalid University ranked 179th on the Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings in 2021. Emerging economies are those nation-states who are advancing and developing rapidly with respect to business, economic activity, technology, and social reformation. Rankings were based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution's performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. Vice Rector for Development and Quality, Dr. Merzin Al-Shahrani, explained that this ranking achievement is a direct result of the university's strategic vision and goal to break the top 200 ranking of all universities by the year 2030. A crucial requirement is for King Khalid University's international community recognition for scientific research and developments in practical applications of technical achievement. This will ensure the university's success both in reputation and in alumni performance in the marketplace. General Supervisor of the International Ranking Unit, Dr. Sami Al-Shehri, further explained that ranking is based on four main criteria with distributed across five categories. He highlighted that 30% is allocated to Education, 30% to Scientific Research, 30% to Research Citations, 7.5% to International Outlook, and 2.5% to Industry Income. Dr. Al-Shehri further highlighted that the ranking results included 1,527 universities from 93 countries around the world.

University Preparing to Obtain International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 Certification

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  King Khalid University has set its sights on the implementation of the ISO 9001:2015 QMS, which will lead to improved service delivery to all stakeholders. In line with this initiative, the Internal Audit Team at King Khalid University visited the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education and met the Academic Development and Quality Unit to review ISO 9001:2015 QMS readiness. In attendance were Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education, Prof. Omar Alwan Aqeel, Vice Dean of the Deanship for Academic Development and Quality, Dr. Ahmed Al-Zamili, and a number of the senior support staff. During the meeting, it was duly noted that documented processes are to be followed to the letter to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards. It was agreed that the Internal Audit Team will conduct spot checks to ensure that the non-conformities that were raised are eliminated completely and measures put in place to prevent reoccurrence.  Supervisor of the Organizational Development Unit, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Hajri, said: "This visit was conducted primarily to prepare for ISO 9001:2015 QMS implementation. We also held this meeting to assess the level of compliance and conformity to the required standards."

$80,000 Slated for Winners of Arabic Calligraphy Competition

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  King Khalid University continued to receive participation from candidates interested in the Arabic Calligraphy Competition, which was launched last Monday, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Asir. The competition — formed in line with the Ministry of Culture's Year of Arabic Calligraphy — was inaugurated by His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, as part of the "Mobaderoon" initiative. Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education, Prof. Omar Alwan Aqeel, explained that awards of the competition will total $80,000 in seven categories. First place in each category will be awarded 5,000 sar, second place will be awarded 3,000 sar, third place will be awarded 2,000 sar, and fourth/fifth place will be awarded 1,000 sar.
