Source: King Khalid University_ Media Center   With the presence of the Minister of Health and the Deputy Minister of Education for Universities, Research and Innovation Prof.His Royal Highness Asir’s Prince sponsors launching a 100 bed COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit to the Medical City at King Khalid University His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud The Governor of Asir Region sponsors on Wednesday morning the launching ceremony of a 100 bed ICU for patients with COVID-19 at the Medical City in Al-Qara’a. The Ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Health Dr. Tawfig AlRabiah, and His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Education for Universities, Research and Innovation Prof. Muhammad Al-Sudairy, and His Excellency the University President Prof. Faleh bin Raja Allah Al-Sulami. His Royal Highness Asir’s Prince started the ceremony which took place on the fifth floor of the Medical City’s Hospital which includes 100 ICU. He was briefed on mechanisms of the work through an introductory tour that was attended by their Excellencies the Minister of Health, the Deputy Minister of Education for Universities, Research and Innovation, and the University President. At the beginning of the ceremony, His Royal Highness praised the achievement, pointing to the importance of the leadership structure in implementing it. He stressed on the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques - may Allah protect him - and the government’s directions to provide comfort for the citizens. His Highness thanked His Excellency the Minister of Education, His Excellency the Minister of Finance, His Excellency the Minister of Health, and His Excellency the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development for their fruitful cooperation. He also thanked His Excellency the University President and his team for their efforts to complete this project in a short period of time, as well as the health affairs team in Asir region, and the company which implemented the project. His Royal Highness Asir’s Prince stressed on his great interest in the university city. He pointed he held meetings with contractors, and frequent meetings will be held as of next November in order to tackle all matters related to the university city. His Excellency the Minister of Health explained a 100 bed COVID-19 ICU to the Medical City is a special addition to the region. He confirmed health services are a priority for our leadership to achieve all means of comfort and reassurance for citizens in the COVID-19 pandemic that made the Kingdom among the best countries in the world in dealing with this pandemic. He thanked His Royal Highness for supervising implementing and launching health institutions. He also thanked the Minister of Education Prof. Hamad Al Al-Sheikh, for his support and interest in supporting the health sector in Asir through this facility. His Excellency the President of King Khalid University Prof. Falleh bin Raja Allah Al-Sulami welcomed His Highness the Governor of the region, His Excellency the Minister of Health, His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Education for Universities, Research and Innovation, and all attendees. He confirmed the integration between all the entities makes us capable of challenging, and the crises create opportunities. He pointed preparing 100 bed COVID-19 ICU in one month instead of six months was a challenge. He praised His Highness’s efforts in coordinating, integrating, stimulating the entities’ capabilities. Launching this project in the new University City in Al-Qara’a is a beginning to a new phase in community service. He stressed everyone in Asir has high hopes and confidence in their leadership to continue completing the University City which will contribute in raising educational and medical services.

The orientation program for the newly admitted undergraduate students

Source: Community College for Girls in Abha The orientation program for the newly admitted undergraduate students of Community College for girls in Abha was organized from 30th of August to 3rd of September 2020. Students were formally welcomed and introduced to the culture of the campus and University. The Dean Dr. Muneera Abo Hammamh welcomed the new students. She laid stress on effective communication between the teachers and students and also sought her support and suggestions so that the best could be done for the overall development of the students. The program started with an icebreaker session with the Faculty members. The session was handled by Dr. Heba Sheera (Assistant Professor) program Coordinator, and assistant coordinators Ms. Sirajum Monira and Ms. Fozia Zoulfiquar. The electronic version of student handbook was distributed to all new students. The purpose of the Student Handbook is to give students an understanding of the general rules and guidelines for attending and receiving an education in our university and to help all students develop their full potential for learning and acquire the necessary self-discipline that enable them to become productive and responsible members of society.

Issuing the statistics for the Summer semester’s educational processes

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  The Deanship of E-learning at King Khalid University issued a report on the summer semester online educational processes. These processes were for more than 28500 students in different majors and different headquarters in Abha and other provenances in Asir. The University Vice-President of Educational Affaires Prof. Sa’ad bin Mohammad bin Dejum, explained the University implemented E-learning quality standards and provided guidance and all means of support. It also held a number of online training courses and workshops for faculty members and students.     The Dean of E-learning Dr. Fahad bin Abdullah Al-Ahmari, explained that according to the Learning Management and Virtual Classrooms System during the summer semester of 1441 AH, there were 763915 reviews, 2674126 discussion boards, 1226484 viewed files and 763915 virtual classroom sessions. Al-Ahmari spoke on technical support where a total of 1784 operations were made through different means (phone, WhatsApp, Email and Anydesk). The Deanship issued 23 guide for faculty members and students. As for training the Deanship executed, during the Summer, nine courses seven of which targeted faculty members, with a total of 2174  attendees. The other two courses targeted Students, and they were attended by 1400 students. The Deanship supervised organizing 25 lectures where the attendees reached 52943. The Deanship executed 11617 electronic tests and 342 oral exams. In addition to 739 presentations, 1146 research papers and 11617 projects. The electronic courses of 637 faculty members which were divided into 955 sections were reviewed, and 195 reports on the educational operations were issued. “Tamkeen” YouTube channel continues to offer educational services. The videos posted since the beginning of the Summer semester were 277 with 28325 views in 889 hours, and 298902 impressions.

King Khalid University Continues to Receive Entries for the Arabic Calligraphy Competition

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  King Khalid University continues to receive entries for the Arabic calligraphy competition, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Asir. The competition — formed in line with the Ministry of Culture's Year of Arabic Calligraphy — was inaugurated by His Excellency, King Khalid University Rector Prof. Falleh Al-Solamy, as part of the "Mobaderoon" initiative. Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education, Dr. Omar Alwan Aqeel, highlighted that the competition offers generous awards totaling 80,000 riyals which will be granted to the winners from citizens and residents in the Kingdom. University Preparing to Obtain International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 Certification

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center  King Khalid University has set its sights on the implementation of the ISO 9001:2015 QMS, which will lead to improved service delivery to all stakeholders. In line with this initiative, the Internal Audit Team at King Khalid University visited the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education and met the Academic Development and Quality Unit to review ISO 9001:2015 QMS readiness. In attendance were Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education, Prof. Omar Alwan Aqeel, Vice Dean of the Deanship for Academic Development and Quality, Dr. Ahmed Al-Zamili, and a number of the senior support staff. During the meeting, it was duly noted that documented processes are to be followed to the letter to ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards. It was agreed that the Internal Audit Team will conduct spot checks to ensure that the non-conformities that were raised are eliminated completely and measures put in place to prevent reoccurrence.  Supervisor of the Organizational Development Unit, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Hajri, said: "This visit was conducted primarily to prepare for ISO 9001:2015 QMS implementation. We also held this meeting to assess the level of compliance and conformity to the required standards."

2976 virtual classes and training 815 lecturer, all in one week

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center King Khalid University continues the summer semester online for more than 29500 student in different majors in Abha and other provinces in Asir. The total number of courses was 653 which were delivered by 594 faculty members, those courses were divided into 1678 sections. The Dean of E-learning Dr. Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Ahmari, explained that according to the  Learning Management and Virtual Classrooms System, during the third week of the summer semester of 1441 AH the users reached 104751. The total number of ratings was 95378, and decision boards 15290. As for the viewed files they reached 1748, and virtual class sessions 2976, the number of attendees at the virtual classroom sessions was 65557. On technical support, Al-Ahmari stated that the support reports reached 181 through various means. As for training, the Deanship implemented, during the second week, a course on how to give a successful virtual class lecture. It targeted faculty members and was attended by 815 male and female faculty members. Three guides were also prepared and implemented. Tamkeen channel also continued its efforts to provide educational services, where the number of videos since the beginning of the summer semester reached 277, with 11,795 views in 350 hours.

Tehama Campus Issues COVID-19 PPE to Faculty and Staff

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center   The Department of Operation and Maintenance at the Tehama Campus delivered cloth masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) to faculty and staff, which is designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Tehama Campus Supervisor, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shehri, explained that the initiative is a way to adhere to the instructions and precautions against COVID-19, coinciding with the slogan "Return Carefully". He added this initiative is supervised by His Excellency the University President because he prioritizes the health and safety of the university community. This initiative is within the efforts exerted by the Office of Technical Affairs represented by the Department of Operation and Maintenance. Assistant General Supervisor of the Technical Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahman Murea, reiterated that humanity is the most precious and valuable resource for any organization therefore maintaining their health is a top priority. He pointed out that the initiative is part of the efforts made by the Office of Technical Affairs to raise the level of its services. Operation and Maintenance Manager, Mr. Metib Al-Shehri, explained that the initiative is an extension to a series of initiatives implemented by the department, which were supported and directed by the campus supervisor and his assistant for technical affairs.

Online Workshop Organized by Measurement and Evaluation Center

Source:  King Khalid University - Media Center The Measurement and Evaluation Center at King Khalid University recently organized an online workshop for faculty members. The purpose of the workshop was two‐fold. First, it was to review information related to appropriate assessment methods that accurately measure and evaluate learning outcomes (1) and (2) conceptually explain why course learning outcomes, assessment methods, and teaching strategies should fit and flow together as an integrated learning and teaching process. The first session of the workshop was chaired by Measurement and Evaluation Center Consultant, Dr. Hala Al-Zobair, and began with Measurement and Evaluation Center Head, Dr. Saeed Almueed, giving a talk on how to use SPSS to evaluate course learning outcomes and analyze student performance. Focusing on electronic tests, Dr. Almueed aimed to introduce fundamental SPSS basics and related features after results are exported from Blackboard. He explained that educators need to code raw data, perform quantitative analysis, and interpret results. The second session of the workshop was chaired by Measurement and Evaluation Center Coordinator, Dr. Mona Al-Assal, and began with a talk on the new direction of the Measurement and Evaluation Center and the importance of test banks for our students. It was highlighted that the center's focus has shifted since its inception with adaptability and flexibility to serve the shifting priorities for instructors. The main component of those priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic is the creation of test banks to be used in the achievement test. A call was made to all faculty members to utilize the Measurement and Evaluation Center's services to develop and improve the educational and academic process.

Providing Asir's General Directorate of Health Affairs With Medical Equipment to Combat COVID-19

Source:  King Khalid University - Media Center Members of the COVID-19 medical equipment initiative held their second meeting with Asir's General Directorate of Health Affairs. The meeting was attended by the region's COVID-19 Pandemic Team and the Director of the Regional Medical Laboratory, Vice Director of Medical Services, Dr. Abdullah Kaddah The meeting started with a brief introduction to the initiative and a view of its manufacturing capabilities and output. They discussed the equipment that will aid health practitioners, especially lab specialists who take samples of the virus. At the end of the meeting, the initiative's team toured laboratory facilities. The team's leader Dr. Ahmad Ali bin Dejum explained that the first delivery contained more than 500 jams designed by 3D printers. These jams are meant to be used by health practitioners, medical teams working in the Regional Laboratory and COVID-19 response teams. He also mentioned that 500 controllers capable of interfacing with most doors, drawers, and lights are nearly ready for delivery. He added the next period would be devoted to manufacturing all the requested equipment in coordination with the Command and Control Center at Asir's General Directorate of Health Affairs, noting that initial demand entails the rapid delivery of ventilator spare parts and nose swab tools. It's worth mentioning that this collaboration comes under the concept of enhancing the partnership between the academia, private and government industry to control COVID-19 while promoting global models and executing the urgent action plan in the governorate set by Asir Gov. Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz.

Ramdank Quran One of the Initiative Mubadaroon ’s projects

Source: King Khalid University - Media Center King Khalid University represented by the Deanship of  Community Service and Continues Education in collaboration with the College of Sharia and Fundamentals of Religion are to hold a project entitled “ Ramdank Quran with cash prizes  during the 4th to the 20th of Ramdan, which is part of the Mubadaroon. The Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education, Prof. Omar Alwan Aqil, stressed that the program includes several categories, workshops and sessions  for correcting recitation, memorizing the Holy Quran, as well as Children recitation  and the project is to be held online. The program targets all groups of society, in order to achieve several goals, most notably linking society to the Holy Quran, improving and correcting recitation of the Holy Quran, and studying verses from the Book of Allah Almighty. It’s worth mentioning ,that all sessions  and competitions are held from Sunday to Wednesday from 10 am to 11:30 pm.
